Dear Pig Purchaser;

            Thank you for purchasing pigs through North American Swine. This is a short note to get you familiar with us, and the unloading procedure. We will also be corresponding by phone in regards to delivery time(s), and any special procedures, veterinary recommendations, etc.

            Upon arrival of your new group of pigs be sure to get an accurate head count and verify this with the truck driver. He should have a bill of lading or weight slip for you to sign, as the pigs will have been weighed at the time of loading. Also take note of any pigs that are having problems and make those notes on the slip that you sign, because sometimes a pig is damaged or injured during transport. We understand how difficult it can be to count the pigs, but we want to be fair to you. Do not sign the slip until the head count is verified. If we do not hear from you within a reasonable amount of time (typically 24 hours or less), we will go by the producers head count, we will assume all the pigs are 100 per cent, and we will bill you for the proper amount. These are the phone numbers for contacting us:

      We highly recommend having some medication in the water when receiving pigs. A penicillin-based treatment is best, amphycillin or amoxycillin both work very well. Pulse medicating is a very effective form of treatment. Pulse medication involves putting pigs on medication for three days or so, and then off for the same amount of time. This should be done for approximately 10 days to two weeks. This is just to help the little guys get off to a good start after transport. Medication in the water is much more effective than in the feed, as the medication is distributed to the pigs more effectively and also takes effect more efficiently. Electrolyte are also another popular way to get pigs started after shipping and can be used along with the penicillin-based treatments. Another good idea is to withhold feed from pigs for the first few hours to make sure the pigs do not overeat right away. If they drink first they are less likely to overeat.

            The newest recommendation we have for swine and swine housing is to use Stalosan F, a new animal hygiene product. Stalosan F was developed by a Danish veterinarian 35 years ago and has been used in the European countries for many years. The product is a fine pink powder comprised of natural mineral salts, and has no toxicological effects, and is safe to the environment, animals, and humans. This patented product’s mode of action is through adsorption to pathogens, not a dangerous chemical combination that is unsafe to both animals and humans.  This broad-spectrum product creates an optimal environment for livestock and the people that care for them.

            The greatest enhancement of the environment of you livestock buildings is Stalosan F’s ability to substantially reduce the levels of toxic ammonia gas. It will also reduce moisture levels in the building to make for a better environment for the pigs and a worse environment for disease pathogens.  The product is safely and easily applied using a leaf blower to move the material into the air where it will settle down upon the livestock floor. It is a low dosage material requiring only 1 lb. per 100 square feet of building space for each treatment.

            North American Swine is offering the innovative Stalosan F to better serve your needs in the profitable production of swine. For more information and how to order Stalosan F call today at 1-800-658-3455.
